As a schoolboy, Ivaylo played the oboe. Playing the same instrument, he was admitted to the School of Music in Rousse, but a year later, after he was said to be unpromising by some music experts, he left the school and began individual study of the bass guitar. Ivaylo transformed his disappointment into a personal ambition and three years later, in 1992, his efforts were rewarded when he was admitted, as first on the list, to the State Academy of Music in a class of bass guitarists. In 1996 Ivaylo graduated with distinction and was accepted on a competitive basis into the Big Band of the Bulgarian National Radio. At the same time, until 2000, he played in the Dynamite Brass Band of Georgi Borisov, and also in jazz groups such as Tambu and Bells. The partnership between Ivaylo and Venko in these bands helped them to develop a brilliant rhythm section and play in public concerts with celebrities such as Mike Stern and Frank Itt. TE’s confidence and stable funky style is due to Ivaylo’s presence on stage. He is a musician who is unsparingly and constantly working on his self-improvement and consolidation of his style with the powerful and masterly sound and to the depth and feeling typical of the best bass guitarists.
